The opposition in Mexico urges to change the immigration policy after the end of Title 42

The opposition in Mexico urged the Government to change its immigration policy to avoid tragedies in the face of the possible increase in the migratory flow due to the end of the Title 42 of USAwhich returned migrants with the argument of the pandemic of the covid-19.

the rightist National Action Party (PAN) criticized the Government for its handling of the humanitarian crisis by asking that a fire similar to that of Juarez Cityto the north of Mexicowhere 40 migrants died last March.

He BREAD repudiated the recent closure of 33 temporary migratory stays of the INMwith the capacity to house 1,300 migrants.

“The recent news, especially the suspension of 33 immigration stays by the INMwhich coincides with the entry into force of the Title 8 in the USAshow the lack of commitment and negligence of Brunette (Government party) in the protection of the rights of migrants”, expressed the PAN in a statement.

Although this Friday concludes the Title 42, USA apply now the Title 8the norm that has historically governed migration and which includes deportations and measures to stop the migratory flow that are less flexible.

The PAN pointed out that the speech of “Stay in Mexico” by US immigration agents accentuates the immigration crisis in the country.

On the other hand, Clement Castanedaleader in the Senate of the liberal Citizen Movement (MC)warned that with the extinction of this measure, an increase in migrants on the northern border is expected.

“Today comes to an end Title 42A politic anti-immigration that justified the violation of human rights and the separation of families of undocumented migrants, under alleged public health reasons.”he commented on his Twitter account.

Faced with this panorama, he added, it is urgent that the Government of Mexico correct the “disastrous” migration policy to avoid repeating one more tragedy.

For his part, the senator without a party from the Plural Group, Emilio Alvarez Icaza, criticized the deployment of Armed Forces in Mexico for migratory tasks.

“The US militarizes its southern border. Mexico militarizes its southern border. Title 8 either Safe Third Countrythe migration stays in Mexico”he stated on his social networks.

This Thursday, USA repatriated to Mexico a total of 942 migrants before the end of the migration policy, while the presence of 26,560 migrants was recorded at the common border.

This same day, the Mexican foreign minister, Marcelo EbrardClarified that Mexico will not receive more than 1,000 migrants a day deported from USAbecause it does not have the capacity to attend to them nor the will to accept it.
