Elections State of Mexico and Coahuila 2023: more than 15 million Mexicans are called to vote in key elections

More than 15 million people are called to vote this Sunday June 4 in the Mexican state elections of Coahuilain the north of the country, and Mexico statein the center, informed this Thursday the National Electoral Institute (INE).

The conditions are propitious so that 15,031,650 people can cast their vote freely in one of the 24,480 polling stations that will be installed in both entities”, stated the advisors of the electoral entity in a press release.

In addition to the two governorships, in Coahuila 25 councils will be renewed, 16 relative majority and nine proportional representation.

According to INE, 171,360 citizens will be responsible for receiving and counting the votes; 820 people will carry out electoral supervision tasks; 153 foreign visitors have been accredited; and more than 10,000 requests to carry out electoral observation have been approved.

Regarding the last two groups of people, the INE said that “contribute to certainty and transparency” on election day.

On Sunday night, the local INE agencies will inform citizens about voting trends, through a quick count of 450 random polling stations in Coahuila and 700 in Mexico state.

Before the start of the reflection period this Thursday, the organization called on political actors to comply with the law, which prevents them from carrying out public campaign, propaganda or electoral proselytizing acts.

unprecedented elections

The independent entity in charge of organizing the elections throughout the country stressed that next Sunday’s elections are unprecedented due to three aspects.

The first, because for the first time 73,000 Mexicans residing abroad will be able to vote in the consulates of US cities in The Angels, Chicago and Dallasas well as in the Canadian Montréal.

However, there will be up to 80,733 who will vote from abroad, either in person, by post or online.
