Ukraine accuses Russia of blowing up the Kakhovka dam in Kherson

The Ukrainian military authorities denounced early on Tuesday the blowing up, by the Russian forces, of the dam of Kakhovkasituated on the river Dnipro on his way through the province of Kherson south of Ukrainewhich has forced the emergency evacuation of the inhabitants of the affected area.

“The Russian Army has carried out another terrorist attack. They have blown up the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Stationsaid the head of the Military Administration of the province of KhersonOleksandr Prokudin, in a video addressed to the population of the area.

The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Yermakhas reported the call, by the president of the country, Volodymyr Zelenskyof an urgent National Security Council.

yermak has described the blowing up of the dam as “war crime” and “ecocide”and has posted a video allegedly showing how water begins to overflow from the damaged dam.

“The Russians will be responsible for the lack of drinking water for the people of the southern region of Kherson and of crimeadue to the possible destruction of some localities and the biosphere”added yermak.

The destruction of the dam occurs when both Ukraine as Russia have reported in their latest military reports on actions by the Ukrainian army that seem to point to the beginning of its expected counteroffensive to recover territories occupied by the Russians.

Ukraine has warned on several occasions since the start of the war of the possibility that Russia will blow up the dam Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station.
