The advantage of the former head of government of Mexico City Claudia Sheinbaum It grew a week and a half before the ruling party’s presidential candidacy is defined, according to a new survey revealed this Monday by the Reforma newspaper.

In the ruler’s internal strife National Regeneration Movement (Brunette), sheinbaum obtains 37% of the preferences to be the candidate in the 2024 presidential elections, 15 points above her closest rival, the former foreign minister Marcelo Ebrardwho receives 22%.

The data shows that the advantage of the former president of the capital has grown 10 points compared to the last survey, last May, when she had 31% of the preferences, five points above Ebrard (26%).

The list in the current survey is completed by the licensed deputy of the labor party (PT) Gerardo Fernandez Norona (7%), the licensed senator from the Green Party (PVEM) Manuel Velasco (6%), the former Secretary of the Interior Adam Augusto Lopez (5%), and licensed senator Ricardo Monreal (4%).

In a confrontation between possible candidates from the ruling party and the opposition, Sheinbaum would obtain 44% of the votes in the 2024 presidential election compared to 27% for Senator Xóchitl Gálvez, the favorite to be the candidate of the opposition alliance Va por México.

While, in that scenario, the governor of Nuevo Leon, Samuel Garciawould receive 12% with the Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) party, which defines itself as a third way between the Government of Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and the opposition of the traditional parties.

On the other hand, ebrard would have 41% of the intention to vote against 28% of Galvez and 12% from Garcia.

The survey was carried out at home to 1,000 Mexicans between August 18 and 23, with a confidence level of 95%, and a margin of error of 4%.

The opinion study is published on the eve of defining the presidential candidacies of Goes through Mexicowhich will do so on September 3, and Brunettewhich will announce it on September 6.
