“It is wonderful to see Colin Powell, who made great mistakes in Iraq and the so-called weapons of mass destruction, being treated in death so beautifully by the fake news media. I hope that happens to me one day ”, Trump said in a statement.

Powell, a retired four-star general, died Monday at age 84 of complications from covid-19.

“He was a classic RINO, if that, always being the first to attack other Republicans. He made a lot of mistakes, but anyway, may he rest in peace! ”, wrote Trump, using the acronym for “Republican in name only.”

Since 2008, Powell, a former member of the Republican administration of George W. Bush, backed the Democrats to the White House: twice Barack Obama, and then Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden.

Powell He admitted that his February 2003 speech to the United Nations Security Council, in which he defended the alleged existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, was “a stain” on his career, evidence that was later shown to be false.

It is not the first time Trump reviles an illustrious deceased. Following the death of Senator John McCain in 2018, Trump continued to discredit the Arizona Republican, who was also among his fiercest detractors.

In a speech seven months later, Trump said he gave McCain “the funeral I wanted, and I didn’t get a ‘thank you.’ Trump was not invited to the funeral.
