Colombia begins vaccinating children between the ages of 3 and 11 against the coronavirus

The health authorities of Colombia began this Sunday to apply the vaccine against coronavirus covid-19 from the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac to children between 3 and 11 years old in the different vaccination points of the cities and towns of the country.

After the publication of Resolution 1738 of 2021 by the Ministry of Health, the local authorities opened the vaccination and many parents arrived with their children, some of whom were disguised for the celebration of Halloween.

With this new phase, in Colombia it only remains to enable vaccination for children under three years of age.

The Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz, explained on Friday that the objective of vaccinating children is “to reduce the contagion to their families and to achieve such important issues as their safe return to classrooms under all risk prevention conditions. ”.

He also said that children will receive two doses, the second 28 days after the application of the first.

VACCINATION IN BOGOTÁ

The mayor in charge of Bogotá, Luis Ernesto Gómez, opened the vaccination in Bogotá and even brought his two children, who received the Sinovac doses at a post in the north of the city.

“Today, October 31, Children’s Day, we want to invite all parents in Bogotá to vaccinate all their children in November so that they are protected in December,” Gómez said at a press conference.

The official said that there are “about 831,000 boys and girls in the age range of 3 to 11 years” and insisted on his call for minors to be taken to “the 30 vaccination posts that Bogotá has.”

“We are betting on fully completing the age range (…) before the end of the year,” he said, adding that, in general, Bogotá is expected to have 80% of its total population vaccinated before the end of 2021.

On Friday 198,548 vaccines were applied in Colombia, of which 93,797 correspond to second doses and 26,597 to the single-dose formula of the pharmaceutical company Janssen, according to the balance released today by the Ministry of Health.

With this, 47,127,172 vaccines have already been applied. In total, 21,261,920 people have their full vaccination schedule and 224,180 people have received booster doses.
