Who is Jacob Chansley, the “shaman of QAnon” who will pay for the assault on the US Capitol?

Become the symbol of assault on the United States Capitol for posterity, Jacob Chansley, the self-styled “shaman” who entered the headquarters of the US Congress on January 6 disguised as a bison, will now pay with more than three years in jail.

Judging by his recent appearances in the media and before the federal court of the District of Columbia, Chansley has moved away from the alleged rebellion against the system that led him to be a fervent believer and “envoy” of the conspiracy theory movement QAnon, as he portrayed himself a year ago in statements to Efe.

This 34-year-old man from Arizona, who without the costume or the painted face seems harmless, has admitted to the judge that he was wrong when entering the Capitol and that his behavior that day was “indefensible.”

IMAGE FOR POSTERITY

But the images that starred in the film will always remain on the retinas of millions of people around the world. “Bison of QAnon” in the Capitol, where he entered dressed as that animal, with a hat with horns and without a shirt to interrupt the official confirmation of Congress of the electoral victory of the now president, Joe Biden.

The first scene of the assault that went around the world had Chansley as the protagonist, with his fist raised, as a momentary “president” of the US Senate, amid the chaos unleashed.

This bizarre sequence was broadcast live by the main US television channels, which did not know at that time who that man in disguise who called himself “Yellowstone Wolf” was on his YouTube channel.

In that social network, Chansley defended the existence of an alleged network of child pornography and child sex trafficking run by the Democrats, ideas favored by QAnon.

His image in the hemicycle took so much force that several national and international media referred to him as one of the leaders of the occupation of the US Congress, which has already been punished with the indictment in federal courts of more than 600 people.

THE ROAD BEGAN IN ARIZONA

While unknown to the general public in November 2020, Chansley had mentioned to Efe the possibility of going to the protest called for January 6 in Washington in an interview in the days after the US presidential elections last year – held on November 3, 2020 – in front of the Maricopa County voting and counting center, in that state.

“Yellowstone Wolf” then described himself as a “chosen one” sent by QAnon, a group formed in internet forums and which has been labeled by the FBI as a potential threat of domestic terrorism.

With a smile from ear to ear, Chansley He explained that his duty was to “inform” the community of the different scandals that the Democratic Party supposedly hides, such as human trafficking, interference in the US Government, or electoral fraud against then-President Donald Trump.

IT WAS COMPARED TO GANDHI OR JESUS

He also referred in that conversation to his role as an alleged civil leader in defending “Trump’s votes in Arizona” through “civil disobedience”, emulating historical figures.

“We are facing the global narrative that Biden won through civil disobedience, as Gandhi, Jesus, or Martin Luther King did,” he said, with his face painted with the US flag, as in the assault.

His message caught on with Trump supporters present at those protests in Arizona, in part, due to his great rhetorical skills and a harsh but unique voice.

Thus, he became one of the keynote speakers at every event in Phoenix that week, whether it was in front of that polling place, City Hall, or the state Capitol.

Those repeated performances led him to be one of the protagonists of Trump’s “defense of the votes”, at the level of the ultra-conservative radio presenter Alex Jones, also present in those intense sessions.

In less than two months, Chansley went from the gardens of the Arizona Capitol to the interior of the US Capitol, a transition that led him to be known worldwide, but also to end up behind bars.
