Mark Meadows, Trump’s former chief of staff, decides to cooperate in the investigation into robbery of the Capitol

The former chief of staff of Donald Trump, Mark Meadows, is cooperating with a commission of the United States Congress investigating the storming the capitol on January 6 by supporters of the former president, the committee chairman said on Tuesday.

SIGHT: Who is Jacob Chansley, the “shaman of QAnon” who will pay for the assault on the US Capitol?

Lawmaker Bennie Thompson, who leads the panel, said that Meadows provided files to the committee and “will appear soon for an initial statement.”

Meadows was serving as Trump’s chief of staff when supporters of the former president stormed the Capitol in an effort to avoid certification of Democrat Joe Biden’s election victory in the presidential election.

Initially, he had ignored a subpoena to testify before the House committee investigating the attack on the Capitol, risking prosecution on possible contempt charges.

But Thompson said in a statement Tuesday that Meadows “has been working with the Committee through his attorney.”

The committee “expects all witnesses, including Mr. Meadows, to provide all requested information and that the Select Committee is legally entitled to receive,” Thompson said.

Trump invoked presidential executive privilege in an attempt to avoid having to deliver documents requested by the committee. And a court hearing on the matter was taking place on Tuesday.

Former Trump aide Steve Bannon was arrested two weeks ago in contempt of Congress after rejecting a subpoena to testify before the committee.

House investigators believe that Meadows and other Trump advisers and officials may have information about the ties between the White House and the swarm of supporters that invaded the Capitol.

The panel has already convened numerous former Trump campaign officials and administrative staff.
