The staff of a hospital British He called fire crews this week after a patient presented to his emergency room with an old World War II howitzer stuck in his rectum.

The tabloid The Sun was the first to report the incident, claiming that the patient, whose identity was not disclosed, explained to doctors that he had “slipped and fallen” on the device.

The man had been cleaning up his private arsenal of military collectibles when the accident occurred, he added.

The ammunition was later identified as a projectile fired by anti-tank guns dating from the Second World War.

The 57mm howitzer, 17cm long by 6cm wide, was “a thick, pointed piece of lead designed to pierce the armor of a tank,” a military source told The Sun.

The patient was discharged from the hospital and must make a full recovery, the newspaper said.
