Due to the intensity of this fourth peak, the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO) asked the Bolivian population this Thursday for a “committed attitude” that is “individual and collective” in the face of this escalation of the pandemic which started at the end of October.

The health authorities in Santa Cruz reported that the intensive care units in hospitals are filled mostly by people who were not vaccinated, as had been warned that it would happen when the escalation began.

The Government has taken measures that will be applied as of January 1 with the requirement of the vaccination card, digital verification, as a requirement for procedures and for entering public and private sites for people over 5 years old.

From the central government level, it has been recognized that biosecurity measures have been “relaxed”, which is why the call has been made to maintain distance care, use of masks and use of disinfectants, among other forms of prevention.

Bolivia has a vaccinable population of 10.2 million and since the end of January 9.7 million vaccines have been applied between first and second doses, booster inoculations and single doses, in different proportions.

The country accumulates 19,680 deaths and 599,753 confirmed cases of the disease and has guaranteed the amount of vaccines necessary for its entire population of permitted age.
