Outbreak of COVID-19 on cruise ship held in Lisbon amounts to 52 infections

The outbreak of coronavirus registered this week on the cruise ship AIDAnova, held in Lisboa, amounted to 52 infections, as confirmed by sources from the Port of Lisbon to local media.

The boat, coming from Germany, is destined for the Spanish island of Lanzarote, although he planned to make a stopover in Madeira to see the New Year’s Eve fireworks.

The captain of the Port of Lisboa, Commander Vieira Branco, confirmed last night to the media that the cruise ship has been docked in the Portuguese capital since December 29 and that it had about 4,000 people on board of various nationalities, the majority German.

They initially detected a fortnight of positives among the crew and, when carrying out more controls, the infected amounted to fifty, all of them asymptomatic or with mild symptoms.

Branco added that authorities have allowed uninfected crew and passengers to leave the cruise ship.

The positives have been transferred to a ground facility, according to local media.

The cruise ship, which is waiting to replace part of the crew, will not leave the port until this Sunday, January 2.

The entity Madeira ports confirmed on Friday through his profile Facebook that this cruise had canceled its journey to the archipelago.
