Prince Andrés will press for the US justice to dismiss a complaint for “sexual assault” of a minor

The lawyers of the Prince Andrew of England They will pressure the US justice this Tuesday to file a civil complaint for “sexual assaults”, filed by an American in New York for events dating back to 2001, when she was a minor.

At 3:00 p.m. GMT on Tuesday, a crucial videoconference hearing has been scheduled between a Manhattan federal court judge, the attorneys for Queen Elizabeth II’s second child, and those for the alleged victim of the prince Andrew, Virgina Giuffre, 38 years old.

In his civil complaint, filed in August, Giuffre states that the prince “sexually assaulted” her on three occasions in 2001 – when she was 17 years old and her name was Virginia Roberts – in London, New York and in the Virgin Islands, in the United States. In those places, two friends of Prince Andrew, the American billionaire Jeffrey Epstein and the British Ghislaine Maxwell, had residences.

Epstein, who was 66, died awaiting trial in a Manhattan prison in 2019, in what a coroner ruled suicide, after being accused of child sex trafficking. Maxwell, who introduced Prince Andrew to Epstein in the early 1990s, faces dozens of years in jail after being found guilty by a New York jury of five of the six counts against him, following a high trial. profile and very media.

Virginia Giuffre, who was not part of the prosecution in the Maxwell trial, declared herself pleased with the sentence and stated that she expects others to be “accountable”, alluding to Prince Andrew, from whom she is claiming financial compensation.

“Unfounded claim”

The 61-year-old prince, who is not being prosecuted for criminal charges, “categorically” denies having attacked Virginia Roberts at that time and assures that he does not remember her.

On a civil level, his lawyers believe that the prince could evade justice thanks to a deal sealed in 2009 between Epstein and Virginia Giuffre, who was also an alleged victim of the billionaire.

On Monday, New York magistrates made public that agreement, until now confidential, according to which Epstein would have paid half a million dollars to Giuffre. According to the transaction, signed in Florida 12 years ago, Giuffre promised not to report Epstein or “other potential defendants” around him.

Neither the name nor the noble title of the Duke of York appear in that document, but the defense of Prince Andrew considers that it protects both Epstein and his relatives, the prince included.

Instead, Virginia Giuffre’s lawyers argue that Prince Andrew is not “covered” by the agreement, because he “does not cite him” and because the interested party “did not even know of its existence” in 2009.

The prince’s lawyers have accused Giuffre of profiting from an “unfounded lawsuit.”

His attempts to stop the course of the lawsuit on the grounds that Giuffre now lives in Australia were rejected by US justice on Friday.

Giuffre’s lawyers have requested Andrés’ medical records, which prove that the prince was unable to sweat due to a rare health condition related to his combat service in the Falkland Islands in 1982 and due to excessive adrenaline secretion at the time.

In a disastrous interview with the BBC in 2019, the prince denied Giuffre’s claims that he had shared a sweaty dance at a London nightclub with him as he never perspired.

Many widely publicized photographs show the closeness between Prince Andrew, Epstein, Maxwell and Giuffre. Most notably, a 2000 image of Epstein, Maxwell and Prince Andrew during a hunting party in eastern England. Another photo shows Prince Andrew and Giuffre holding each other around the waist, smiling, with Maxwell in the background.

Prince Andrew, mired in scandal for more than two years, had to leave the front line of British royalty and withdrew from public life.
