Partially vaccinated and unvaccinated people will still need to be quarantined. Authorities said in a statement that the measure was necessary “to safeguard the testing system and the social impact” of the omicron variant.

The statement said that “the models show that the number of infections will continue to increase in the coming days and weeks. The pressure on our testing and analysis capacity would become unsustainable ”if no further action is taken.

The latest statistics for the week ending Dec. 31 show a weekly increase in infections of 69% for a total of 10,936 in the nation of 11 million. Hospital admissions increased 15% during the last available week.
