FBI identifies synagogue attacker in Texas and Biden calls the act “terrorism”

Authorities on Sunday identified the man who took hostages at a synagogue in Texas as Malik Faisal Akram, a 44-year-old British citizen.

In a statement issued Sunday, the FBI said there is no indication that anyone else was involved.

US President Joe Biden, for his part, called the hostage-taking at the Beth Israel synagogue near Fort Worth, Texas, an “act of terrorism” and seemed to confirm that the attacker, who later died, demanded release. of convicted terrorist Aafia Siddiqui.

“This was an act of terrorism” that was related to “someone who was arrested 15 years ago and has been in jail for 10 years,” Biden told reporters during a visit to a hunger relief organization in the city ​​of Philadelphia.
