US Embassy in Ukraine urges its citizens to think about leaving the country “now”

The Embassy of U.S in Ukraine today urged Americans in Ukraine to think about leaving the country “now” in the face of the “increasing threat of Russian military action,” which could deteriorate the situation without warning.

“The security situation in Ukraine continues to be unpredictable due to the growing threat of Russian military action and may deteriorate without warning.” the legation points out in a notice to its citizens published on its website.

“The US Embassy urges US citizens in Ukraine to consider leaving now using commercial transportation options or other available private transportation options”, he adds.

Two days ago, the White House asked Americans in Ukraine to “get out” of the country and affirmed that no evacuation plan like the one in Afghanistan is contemplated.

The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, denied on Tuesday that the evacuations of diplomatic personnel announced by some Western embassies mean an “imminent escalation” of the conflict with Russia.

“The embassies of countries of the European Union (EU) and many others leave their employees in Ukraine. And the fact that some countries have decided to remove part of their diplomats does not in any way mean an imminent escalation.” Zelensky said in a speech broadcast through his social networks.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry specified, in turn, that only a few embassies, including the US and the United Kingdom, announced their intention to begin evacuations of diplomatic personnel.

Australia has recommended the departure of relatives of diplomats, as have Canada and Germany.
