WHAT HAPPENS TODAY IN VENEZUELA?

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki stressed Thursday that the United States still does not recognize Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, despite talks to free US citizens and to address the oil crisis.

“The priority of our engagement with Maduro, who we don’t recognize as the leader of Venezuela, but who was detaining US citizens, was to bring US citizens home.”he stated in his daily press conference.

Two Americans imprisoned in Venezuela were freed on Tuesday after a US delegation traveled last weekend to Caracas, where they also discussed the energy crisis unleashed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Psaki stated that the “priority” of the trip was the release of prisoners and that “a variety of issues” were also discussed, including the demand that Maduro “walk towards peace” in Venezuela and the energy issue.

WHAT IS THE DIGITAL BOLÍVAR?

It is the currency that governs the country after the third monetary reconversion that was applied by the Government. The new reconversion implied that for every million sovereign bolívares a digital bolívar would be obtained or, what is the same, six zeros of the amounts previously drawn would be erased.
