Dollar in Peru: what is the exchange rate today, Monday, April 25

The price of the US dollar in Peru was on the rise in the informal or parallel market today, Monday, April 25, 2022. The exchange rate rose to S/ 3,730 for purchase and S/ 3,775 for sale, according to exchange houses in Lima.

On the other hand, in the interbank market, the greenback closed at S/ 3,770, according to data provided by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR).

The monetary entity detailed that the dollar has a decline of 5.54% so far in 2022, compared to the result recorded at the end of last year (S / 3,991).

The foreign currency registered an appreciation of 10.28% at the end of 2021 due to the impact of political uncertainty and doubts about the economic outlook due to the new variants of the coronavirus.

At the regional level, the currencies and stock markets of Latin America closed with losses on Friday, amid a global advance of the dollar and concerns of the markets regarding a tightening of monetary policy in the United States, after statements made in the day before by the chairman of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell.

According to Reuters, a half-point interest rate hike will be “on the table” when the Federal Reserve meets on May 3-4, in what is expected to be a series of credit cost hikes this year, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said Thursday in comments that pointed to an aggressive set of central bank actions.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, an indicator of the value of the greenback against six major currencies, reached 101.33 points, the highest level since March 2020. It was later trading 0.6% higher at 101.16 units. So far this year, the dollar has gained 5.7%.

“Macro fundamentals continue to point to a higher dollar as short-term Treasury yields versus comparable maturity in sovereign yields are positive and inflation is high globally,” said Stan Shipley, Fixed Income Strategist , at Evercore ISI in New York.
