On the other hand, in the interbank market, the greenback closed at S/ 3,806, according to data provided by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR).

The monetary entity detailed that the dollar has a decline of 4.12% so far in 2022, compared to the result recorded at the end of last year (S / 3,991).

The foreign currency registered an appreciation of 10.28% at the end of 2021 due to the impact of political uncertainty and doubts about the economic outlook due to the new variants of the coronavirus.

At the regional level, stock markets and most Latin American currencies chained their second consecutive day of heavy losses on Tuesday, amid a global wave of risk aversion due to concern about the world economy.

According to the Reuters agency, the prospect of a tightening of financial conditions due to the war in Europe and a more aggressive Federal Reserve, along with concerns about a slowdown in China’s growth, are the main risks for Latin America and the Caribbean and that require action, the International Monetary Fund said on Tuesday.

“Rising global and domestic financing costs may accelerate capital outflows and pose a challenge for the region, given the large public and external financing needs in some countries,” the IMF said in a blog post. .

Also, the dollar soared to a two-year high as concerns about slowing growth in China and expectations that the Federal Reserve will hike rates aggressively boosted demand for the greenback.

The dollar index that compares the greenback against a basket of six major currencies rose 0.61% to 102.30, the highest since March 2020.
