Dollar in Peru: what is the exchange rate today, Wednesday, May 4, 2022

The price of the US dollar in Peru was trading lower in the informal or parallel market today, Wednesday, May 4, 2022. The exchange rate fell to S/ 3,810 for purchase and S/ 3,835 for sale, according to exchange houses in Lima.

On the other hand, in the interbank market, the greenback closed at S/ 3,819, according to data provided by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR).

The monetary entity detailed that the dollar has a decline of 4.31% so far in 2022, compared to the result recorded at the end of last year (S / 3,991).

The foreign currency registered an appreciation of 10.28% at the end of 2021 due to the impact of political uncertainty and doubts about the economic outlook due to the new variants of the coronavirus.

At a regional level, most Latin American currencies closed higher on Tuesday, taking advantage of a correction of the dollar during the session in the run-up to the announcements that the US Federal Reserve will make regarding increases in the reference cost of money.

According to the Reuters agency, the US currency fell against a basket of currencies, as investors evaluated to what extent the rate hike expected by the Fed for this week and later was already discounted.

Investors adjusted their positions ahead of the Fed’s biggest rate hike since 2000, amid a wave of monetary policy tightening by other central banks.

“Markets continue to bet on an encouraging outcome at the Fed meeting starting today, where a 50 basis point rate hike is expected, with an outward possibility of an even more aggressive move, in the fight of the US central bank to control inflation.said Ricardo Evangelista of ActivTrades.
