In order to make it easier for electric vehicle owners to travel, Renault is currently working on a solution that would allow them to exchange the battery rather than recharge it. This type of project had already been studied before being abandoned, reports BFMTV. The brand’s chief executive, Luca De Meo, asked Renault engineers to find a viable solution.

“I asked them to find a solution to go back to the original idea that had been launched by Renault in 2010-2011 and maybe it could happen on some cars. It is not decided, but I see it as an interesting opportunity ”, declared the person in charge during the conference“ Future of car ”organized by the. Financial Times.

Five minutes instead of thirty

This solution could encourage owners of Renault electric vehicles to go to a dedicated station, where a robot would replace the empty battery with a fully charged one. This would save electric vehicle users time.

The operation to replace the battery would only take 5 minutes, against at least 30 minutes to recharge it. Owners could also save money when buying their vehicle since they would only buy the car, not the battery. On the other hand, a fixed price would be necessary to go to a battery exchange center.
