The Brest flying club (Finistère) will soon set up a zero-carbon airline between the mainland and the island of Ouessant. This line is the shortest in Europe, with only 18 minutes of flight, reports The Telegram. The flying club already has a plane, the Pipistrel Velis Electro. It is the only aircraft with rechargeable batteries certified for worldwide flights. But the two-seater does not allow a line to be filled. It is made available for driving lessons or baptisms.
Low-volume transport
However, this Pipistrel could make it possible to carry out small transport on the island, such as blood tests or medicines. But for this, a charging station must be installed on Ouessant. Which should be done this summer. By 2023 or 2024, the connection could be provided by a Cessna Caravan operated by Finistair.
Do the regulations still have to allow it? If this were the case, “Finistair will thus be the first airline to transport passengers in an ecological plane”, welcomes the president of the company, Charles Cabillic, to our colleagues.
