Renault Trucks start cycling

After trucks, Renault Trucks moves to bicycles. This Monday, November 14th, the Venissier (Rhône) company unveiled its first cargo bike assembly shop, set up in partnership with Lyon-based electric scooter manufacturer Kleuster. As a symbol, the 2,100 m2 building will be ridden by 11 employees who previously worked with internal combustion engines on Freegônes bikes. Once its cruising speed is found, the production line will deliver up to 12 vehicles per day, up from one at present.

“Renault Trucks offers us its surgical know-how in terms of the industry and its distribution network,” says Gerard Tetou, founding director of Kleuster. These Freegônes can be useful for a variety of professions, be it clean delivery like parcels, street food vendors or even cold storage delivery, this bike is the only one in the world to offer that capability.

“Decarbonization is a fundamental shift in our industry”

The aim of the group is to offer the widest possible range of electric vehicles. “When I was told that Renault was going to make cargo motorcycles, my reaction was not surprise, but logic, because decarbonization is a fundamental shift in our industry to combat global warming,” says Bruno Blin, president of Renault Trucks.

The brand is targeting, in particular, the centers of large European cities, which will soon be affected by low emission zones (ZFE) and where 50% of traffic congestion is associated with urban deliveries. Renault Truck plans to sell 50% of electric vehicles by 2030.
