Bas-Rhin: 12,000 photovoltaic panels in the Lilly France car park

Last month, 20,000 m² of photovoltaic panels were installed in Lilly’s parking lot in Fegersheim (Lower Rhine). “These 12,000 panels are attached to large awnings that, in addition to generating electricity, protect our 800 employee vehicles,” explains Denis Huntzinger, CTO at Lilly France.

But the main attraction of this new plant remains the production of green energy. “These panels will allow us to save 12% in electricity generation annually. This is purely our own production, so we will not be subject to inflation due to the international geopolitical context,” says Denis Hantsinger.

Investment of 5 million euros

This photovoltaic plant was installed thanks to a contract signed with EDF ENR. “The energy supplier has invested 5 million euros in the installation of these photovoltaic panels. In return, we buy megawatts from EDF every month. The principle is the same as for car leasing, because in 15 years we will be the owners of this plant,” clarifies the technical director.

The French subsidiary of the American pharmaceutical group is already planning to expand the solar panel area at its Basse-Rhin facility with an additional 5,000 m² of panels over 8 years. This project is part of the goal set by Lilly France for Fegersheim to become carbon neutral by 2030. Technical Director.
