Are you, shall we say, not at the forefront of technology? However, this may be a good thing these days: in the aisles of Auchan, located in the Porte de Bagnolet, in Saint-Saint-Denis, more and more consumers say they use scanet.

The latter, mounted on a trolley, allows the customer to scan each item as it moves across the shelves. Interest? The score is displayed automatically. And if it turns out to be too high, there is always time to give up one or another subject.

“I confess that at first it scared me a little, me, who can’t even use a computer, but now it’s really easy,” smiles Genevieve, a 75-year-old pensioner who was placed there “last month.” .

A mother of three teenagers with a net income of 2,500 euros a month, Helen has been a follower “since the war in Ukraine,” she elaborates.

You can use your smartphone in the casino

To see the national data, in Carrefour the phenomenon is progressing: “between November 2021 and November 2022, the number of users increased from 11.1% to 11.6%,” says a signage spokesperson.

The Casino group, which preceded the use of this tool, made a similar observation twenty years ago: the use of physical scanners is “quite stable”. On the other hand, the Casino max app, which allows you to scan your products yourself, but this time using your smartphone, is experiencing a real boom: “since the beginning of November, we have seen a 30 percent jump in revenue using this method,” says Sebastian Corrado, responsible for commercial policy and marketing of the Casino brands.

It must be said that Casino max offers three undeniable advantages, since they are combined: firstly, the fact of real-time scanning allows you to avoid unpleasant surprises at the checkout; two, article by article, promotions are displayed. Finally, at around €10 per month (currently reduced to €3.75), a subscriber “is entitled to a 10 percent discount on their cart,” recalls Sebastien Corrado.
