STRAIGHT. Pension reform: follow the debate in the National Assembly of the bill of the LIOT group

Vital

  • Consideration of the bill of the LIOT group on pension reform begins at 9 am.
  • All eyes are on the repeal clause, but challenged in the committee, reintroduced with an amendment, and then rejected by the President of the Assembly.
  • Trade unions on Tuesday, during the 14th day of mobilization against the reforms, did not have enough troops to put pressure on the government.
  • LFI Group President Mathilde Panot intends to submit a vote of no confidence in the government.

Last Night in the Assembly

The MPs rejected by 120 votes against and 77 in favor of a proposal for an LR resolution calling for the restriction of public health care (AME), which allows irregular aliens to access health care. The proposal specifically calls for refocusing AMEs “only for emergency care”, “change the health protection of asylum seekers from safe countries of origin”, and limit residence permits for assistance.

This proposal, put forward in the continuation of LR’s offensive against immigration, was supported only by RN. The government was “unfavorable” to this “deep interrogation by AME”.

Six other texts have been prepared, and the day must end, no matter what, at midnight. The proposal, ranked second, seeks to increase financial transaction tax (FTT) revenue through the participation of the financial sector. The other, carried by the deputy from Guadeloupe, Olivier Serva, concerns the overseas territories. In particular, it is proposed to extend existing mobility assistance schemes to workers in these territories.

Who is Yael Brown-Pivé?

The parliamentary debates in the half cycle around the retirement age were in his hands. Torn between her function, which requires her to defend the prerogatives of the National Assembly, and her political loyalty to the president of the republic, who is the president of the lower house of the French parliament?

You can read his portrait here.

The bill consisted of three articles

Article 1, which abolished the legal age of 64, was dropped by the committee, leaving two articles. Article 2 provides that by December 31, 2023, a conference on the financing of the pension system must be organized to discuss survivors’ pensions and, in particular, the employment of older people. He asks the government to submit a report by July 31, 2024, “outlining the solutions considered and the new funding modalities proposed by the conference.”

3253 amendments were made.

Will cancellation be discussed?

That’s the whole point of the morning. “Tomorrow, no matter what happens, there will be no vote to repeal the pension reform,” warned yesterday morning National Assembly President Yael Braun-Pivé, who was waving Article 40 of the Constitution yesterday. This prohibits any parliamentary proposal that puts a strain on public finances.

The Socialists want a minimum vote on the only amendment due to the fact that 64 years passed the filter of Article 40, even if it only requires a report. “The deputies who will vote for this amendment will express their rejection of the reform,” they say.

Context

On April 20, after the adoption of the pension reform using 49.3, the “Freedoms, Independent, Overseas and Territories or Lyot” parliamentary group introduced a bill to repeal the pension reform, which was to be considered on June 8 of this year within the parliamentary niche allotted to the same group.

The other two proposals are to be discussed during the day.
