Conditions, amount, payment date… will you get a Christmas bonus?

This is the gift that has been awaited, and it is now officially announced that it will lie at the foot of the tree. About 2.3 million low-income households will receive exceptional year-end assistance, known as the Christmas Bonus. “Encouragement for the most vulnerable households ahead of the end-of-year celebrations,” the government explains.

Who can get this help?

The bonus is available to active solidarity income (RSA) recipients in November or December 2021. In this case, it is paid by the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA) and the National Family Benefits Fund (CNAF).

Pôle Emploi also pays a Christmas bonus to recipients of the Special Solidarity Allowance (ASS), Special Solidarity Study Allowance (ASS-F), Pension Equivalent Allowance (AER), State Internship Remuneration (RPS), Pôle Emploi Compensation. training (RFPE), assistance in starting and running a business (ACRE-ASS). To receive this exceptional assistance, your eligibility must be valid during November or December 2021. If you are a new beneficiary, the premium will be paid in January 2022.

In any case, there is no need to contact MSA, Caf or Pôle Employ. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you don’t have to do anything and you will automatically receive the Christmas bonus.

What is its amount?

The premium paid by Pôle Emploi is fixed at €152.45 for mainland France and overseas departments and €76.22 for Mayotte. The assistance that RSA recipients receive depends on the composition of the household. Thus, this is 152.45 euros per person, but increases, for example, to 274.41 euros for 3 people in a family.

These amounts have remained unchanged for more than ten years and have changed very little since the introduction of Christmas bonuses in 1998 by the government of Lionel Jospin. The only exception: the allowance granted in 2008, during the five-year rule of Nicolas Sarkozy: the aid was increased to 220 euros per person. Then it was about “compensating the delay” with inflation, which reached 2.8% that year… Exactly the same evolution as in 2021, according to the latest INSEE data. Unless the government decides to improve the Christmas bonus, these same households will continue to receive the €100 inflation allowance announced by the prime minister on 21 October.

When ?

This exceptional year-end bonus will be paid out the week before Christmas on December 15th. Depending on the bank, there may be a delay of one or two days before the amount appears in the recipient’s account.

Please note that this bonus is tax deductible and should not appear as such on the next year’s tax return.
