Summer sales 2023: what are the dates this year?

This is one of the brightest events of the beginning of summer. Traditionally, summer sales will begin on the last Wednesday of June. Thus, this year 2023, it is on Wednesday, June 28, at 8 a.m., that summer sales will begin, and they will end on Tuesday, July 25 inclusive.

As Article L. 310-3 of the Commercial Code recalls, sales are carried out over two periods of a minimum duration of three weeks and a maximum duration of six weeks each, the dates and times of beginning and end of which are established by order. Minister of Economy. From 2020, they last four weeks to “concentrate price cuts over a shorter period of time and amplify their impact,” Bersi points out.

Be careful, however, because this decree may provide different dates for these two periods in some departments to account for the strong seasonality of sales or business transactions in border areas.

In some metropolitan departments, as well as overseas departments and communities, the timing of doing good business differs. Here they are :

  • Corsica (2A & 2B) Wednesday July 12 to Tuesday August 8
  • Guadeloupe (971) from September 30 to October 28
  • Martinique (972) from from October 5 to November 1
  • Reunion (974) February 4 to Friday March 3
  • Saint Pierre and Miquelon (975) from July 19 to Tuesday August 15
  • Saint Barthelemy (977) of from October 14 to November 10
  • Saint Martin (978) of from October 14 to November 10

As for online sales, the Ministry of Economy reminds that they coincide with the national dates of the stores, regardless of the location of the company’s headquarters. Like stores, sites should display the distinction between sale and non-sale items, as well as explicitly indicate the discounts offered in relation to the reference price.

As a reminder, the two selling periods that occur throughout the year are the only periods during which traders are allowed to sell at a loss.
