Mining and Hydrocarbons Sector grew by 16.74% in May 2023

During May 2023, the production of the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased by 16.74%, compared to the same month in 2022, due to the expansion of metal mining by 21.02%, as a result of the increased production of copper (36.1%), molybdenum (17.1 %), zinc (8.2%), lead (5.3%) and tin (6.5%). On the contrary, gold (-7.4%), silver (-4.7%) and iron (-3.7%) decreased.

He National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) In his technical report Situational Advance of Economic Activity, he specified that the hydrocarbons subsector decreased by 4.47%, due to the lower level of exploitation of crude oil (-8.3%), natural gas liquids (-3.9 %) and natural gas (-1.8%).

The Fishing sector decreased by 70.60%

The Fishing sector contracted 70.60% associated with the lower extraction of species of maritime origin (-76.15%), for indirect human consumption in May 2023 7,620 tons of anchovy were extracted and in May of last year 1,069 431 tons.

On the other hand, fishing for direct human consumption grew (4.28%) for consumption in the fresh state (22.9%) and for curing preparation (10.9%).

Fishing of continental origin grew by 5.81% due to the greater extraction of species for consumption in the fresh state.

Production of the electricity subsector in June grew 5.02%

According to preliminary figures, as of June 27 of this year, the production of the electricity subsector grew 5.02%, due to the favorable performance of power generation from thermoelectric sources (29.6%) and renewable energies (22.7% ). However, the generation of hydroelectric power decreased (-19.9%).

Among the companies that stood out for the highest levels of production were: Termoselva, Kallpa Generación, Enel Generación Perú, Engie, Termochilca, Sudamérica de Energía (SDE) Piura, Empresa de Generación Huanza, Egesur and Enel Generación Piura.

Internal cement consumption decreased by 11.88%

During the month of May of this year, the internal consumption of cement contracted by 11.88% compared to the month of May 2022, associated with the low level of private and self-construction works.

Investment spending of the General Government increased by 7.22%

In May 2023, the General Government Investment Expenditure (S/3,392 million) grew by 7.22% compared to the month of May 2022; given the increase in investment in construction in the national government and the increase in investment in machinery, equipment and other assets by the national and regional government. In addition, the consumption expenditure of the General Government, in nominal terms, amounted to S/ 10,044 million, registering an advance of 8.62%, compared to the same month of the previous year.

Granting of consumer loans rose by 15.56%

Consumer loans stood at S/ 72,326 million with an increase of 15.56% compared to the same month of the previous year and mortgage loans amounted to S/ 61,331 million, registering an increase of 5.35% compared to the same month 2022. On the other hand, loans granted to corporations, large, medium, small and micro-enterprises (S/ 218,549 million) decreased by 5.89%.

On the other hand, the placement of multiple banking credit cards was 6 million 642 thousand units and showed an increase of 2.72%.

Total amount imported showed unfavorable behavior

In May 2023, the total amount imported was US$ 4,386 million and decreased by 9.24%, compared to the value registered in May 2022. Thus, the import of raw materials and intermediate products stood at US$ 2,141 million, observing a decrease of 20.89% and the import of capital goods and construction materials amounted to US$ 1,215 million, reducing by 0.25%, compared to the value registered in May 2022.

While, the value of the import of consumer goods was located at US$ 1,030 million, growing by 13.45%.
