The government increases the salaries of judicial judges by 1,000 euros gross per month

Something promised, something due. The salaries of judicial judges will increase by 1,000 euros gross per month from October, as promised by Eric Dupont-Moretti last year, according to a letter sent to judges on Thursday by the Minister of Justice.

“In September 2022, I announced that in October 2023 the salaries of judges will increase by an average of 1,000 euros gross. (…) You were able to or will soon see this on your payroll, now it’s done,” the minister wrote.

Last year, Eric Dupont-Moretti mentioned the measure, called “unprecedented” and “significant” and aimed at bringing the remuneration of judicial judges in line with that of administrative judges.

According to him, the salaries of judicial judges, which together include civil and criminal proceedings, have not been increased “since 1996” and required an increase in the level of administrative judges, who are responsible for resolving disputes with the administration.

Reward for “necessary” commitment

Thus, the minister confirmed that he wants to put an end to the “years of neglect” and address the problems of the “attractiveness” of the judicial order.

“If I wanted to increase your compensation, it is because I know the extent to which your daily work is important to the functioning of our jurisdictions, large and small,” he added in his letter.

This revaluation concerns 9,000 judges in the French judiciary, at a total cost of €120 million for the full year.
