La Poste: here is the new face of Marianne that will be present on the stamps

The brands have a new face. On Tuesday, at the La Poste printing house in Boulazac (Dordogne), the head of state unveiled the new face of Marianne on a postage stamp for the next five years. Traditionally, whenever a five-year term is changed, the president chooses the brand usually used for his mandate, reminds La Poste in a press release. Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron chose Marianne, symbolizing the ecological transition.

In profile, face turned to the right, peaceful gaze, flowing hair merging with the vegetation, and wearing a Phrygian cap, this “Marianne of the Future” replaces “Marianne the Betrayed”, chosen in 2018. The brand was designed by a graphic designer. and illustrator Olivier Balez, engraving by Pierre Bart. Olivier Balez wanted to “take part in the story of the climate emergency without falling into something alarming,” he explained to AFP, “his long diagonal neck symbolizing the impulse towards the future.”

“This Marianne is a sign of the times and a call to always continue and strengthen our commitment, together with all the French people, as well as economic and social actors, to act towards ecological transformation and to ensure the openness of our service missions throughout the country,” emphasized the CEO of the La Group Poste, Philippe Wahl. This new face of Marianne will grace commonly used stamps from Monday 13 November.

The only stamp printing house in France.

During his trip, the President of the Republic hailed the “transformation” of La Poste, “a huge task given all the changes in the use of our time.” Just 15 years ago letters made up 70% of La Poste’s turnover, but today, according to Philippe Wahl, they make up only 16%.

“You were able to turn these problems into levers of transformation, creating new jobs, new opportunities,” in particular by expanding parcels, the Postal Bank or services for the elderly, the president told factory workers and local elected officials. officials.

Founded in 1970 in Boulazac, near Périgueux, the only stamp printing factory in France employs approximately 400 employees, including engravers and designers. Every year, about a billion French stamps come out of its printing presses, which are also produced for other countries, in particular Japan.
