Since the beginning of the year, the body has recorded 215,000 reports from consumers, of which almost 60,000 “concern transactions carried out online or through an app, from a computer or smartphone,” again she says. Most cases involve a problem with the delivery (such as a damaged item or lack of response from customer service) or an issue with “the website itself,” such as misleading advertising or faulty information.

The DGCCRF says it has monitored more than 9,000 websites since the start of the year. “Half of them were abnormal, even if this proportion must be put into perspective as the checks were not random and followed targeted actions or complaints. Its director, Sarah Lakosh, appointed in May, explained in interviews with several media outlets that online consumer protection remains one of the “top priorities” of this service of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, requiring “newer ways of working.” to manage the platform.

The body has recently become interested in fake online reviews and explains that it “systematically” mobilizes agents during Black Friday, a commercial operation during which “announced price reductions do not always reflect reality.”
