‘A Games job only comes once’: 2,000 positions still to be filled for Olympics

“Being at the center of the Olympic Games in France happens once in a lifetime. This is an opportunity to go on an exciting human adventure in the spotlight. This is not a job like any other because these people will learn a lot by making complex things simple. This will be a very important line for subsequently selling yourself on the labor market. » Chantal Lanier, deputy director of talent and diversity at the Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (COJOP), knows how to highlight the many positions she still has to fill with appointments next summer in Paris.

“We still have 2,000 vacancies to fill. Yes, it’s huge, and these are fixed-term contracts. Works will be accepted from January to June or in July, and completion, if we talk about later works, will be in mid-September, she clarifies. As for salary, it all depends on the position, level of responsibility, qualifications, complexity or management. It is difficult to give salary figures. » To achieve her goal, Chantal Lanier is increasing the number of excursions with the goal of “selling” Paris 2024.

Vacancies in various fields

Last Friday, COJOP even opened its doors in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis) to attract future candidates. This Tuesday, November 21st, we will meet at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (Yvelines) velodrome. On Thursday and Friday it will be the Place de la Concorde during the Paris job fair. All means are good, all meetings are a great opportunity to attract people looking for work.

But what are the needs? “We recruit employees from five large families. The first concerns reception in a broad sense, which can concern both dignitaries present in Paris and athletes. There is also a section about public transport. We build bus or taxi fleets transport athletes or journalists. For this, we, among other things, need people who will drive the car,” the specialist lists.

The specialist continues: In terms of accommodation, we also need people mainly in the sports village, as well as in terms of security to manage accreditations in particular and even conductors on different sites. »

Level of preparation is not necessarily the main key to admission. Skills are considered very carefully. Whether you are a specialist in service provider management, customer relations, data management or have a good command of languages, then you are sure to find what you are looking for in the Organizing Committee’s proposals.

In competition with summer work

Ultimately, there is only one small catch… The jobs that need to be filled come at a time when demand is very high everywhere in France, especially for seasonal workers on the coast, in hotels, restaurants, campsites or leisure centers, etc. .the main ones.

“We start very early,” continues Chantal Lanier. We are even ahead, but in the current conditions it is necessary. We will compete with other industries and we understand this very well. But honestly, being a waiter on the Côte d’Azur, you can do this every summer. Working for the Olympic Games only happens once! »

Simple procedures for future employees

However, if 2000 people are already working full time in Saint-Denis (Saint-Saint-Denis) and a few in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), we will have to achieve recruitment targets to make this Olympic interlude a moment of success for both athletes and the public. Is this ultimately the best solution for attracting fixed-term contracts?

“We know we’re going to take some losses. Some people who say yes will find longer contracts and let us down. That’s why we need a small mattress. But above all, we can also find solutions for people who are already working and do not want to leave their job. In this case, provide them with all the documents so that they can, for example, negotiate unpaid leave. We may even go as far as to communicate directly with employers so that they can fire their employees, especially those who work for our partners,” concludes COJOP’s employment specialist.
