Christmas bonus: what you need to know about payments of this assistance this Wednesday

This is a welcome boost for households struggling financially in the days leading up to the holidays. As every year for twenty-five years, more than two million French families will receive the Christmas bonus. This assistance is paid by Pôle emploi, CAF (Family Benefit Fund) or MSA (Mutual Agricultural Social Assistance) for farmers who are beneficiaries of certain social minimums, such as the Active Solidarity Income (RSA), the Special Solidarity Allowance (ASS), or the Pension Equivalent Allowance ( AER). On the other hand, French people receiving Allowance for Adults with Disabilities (AAH) or Individual Housing Assistance (APL) are not entitled to this.

It is from this environment that the first payments are made to Pôle emploi beneficiaries (specifically ASS or AER). “Depending on the processing time of banking institutions, receipt of amounts into recipients’ accounts may take several days,” the organization clarifies. CAF will make payments to RSA beneficiaries starting Friday.

How much does it cost? For RSA recipients, the amount ranges from €152.45 for a single person with no children to over €440 for a family with four children (and €60.98 per person on top). For ASS and AER beneficiaries the premium is fixed at €152.45. The transmission is automatic; therefore, interested households do not need to take any action. However, those whose licenses were opened this month will have to wait a few more days. Their bonus is due in January 2024.

308.72 euros for one person with a child

New this year: Additional assistance for single-parent families will be added to these amounts. This is a measure adopted by the Socialists and Allies parliamentary group as part of a bill to repeal management legislation. It provides that for these families the Christmas bonus will be increased by 35%.

As RSA beneficiaries, single people automatically receive €80 more with one child (i.e. €308.72 in total), €96 with two children (i.e. €370.45), €117 (i.e. 452.78 euros) with three children, etc. For ASS and AER beneficiaries, the initial contribution of 152.45 euros is supplemented by 53 euros for one child, 80 euros for two children, 96 euros for three children… On the other hand , for them this bonus is not paid automatically. You must submit an application to Pôle emploi, providing proof of the number of dependent children.
