Listeriosis risk from smoking salmon: recall across France

Be very careful if you buy smoked salmon for an end-of-year meal. The SAS Le Fumoir brand is the subject of a recall of some of its products. The bacterium Listeria, which causes listeriosis, is present in some parts of the body.

The corresponding salmon has been sold since December 5th in kilogram format. It expires on January 1st. The corresponding lot is 11.173.011. The affected goods were sold by wholesalers. Therefore, it is distributed throughout France.

If you buy this smoked salmon, do not eat it, destroy it, or return it to the store. In this case, an exchange will be made.

Up to eight weeks of incubation

Authorities indicate that people “who experience fever, isolated or accompanied by headache and body aches, are encouraged to consult their doctor and report this use.” Particular attention should be paid to the fact that incubation can last eight weeks. Listeriosis can cause “serious neurological complications.”

As is often the case with this type of food bacteria, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems are most at risk. The Ministry of Health explains that “in the particular case of infection of pregnant women, the infection may go unnoticed or be reduced to symptoms similar to those of the flu. However, the risks and consequences can be serious for the unborn child: abortion, premature birth, septic forms with respiratory failure in the child in the first days after birth.
