Pepsi and 7 Up carbonated drinks, Lipton tea, Lay’s chips… Carrefour is removing Pepsico products from its shelves

This is a new episode of the price war between distributors and manufacturers. Carrefour is removing Pepsico group products from its shelves starting this Thursday. The information released on Wednesday by Olivier Douwers, a specialist in mass distribution, was confirmed by franceinfo.

We are talking about carbonated drinks Pepsi and 7 Up. This measure also affects Lay’s chips or Lipton tea. Benénuts, Doritos and Quaker brands will also be affected.

In practice, posters are placed on store shelves to indicate that there is an ongoing conflict between Carrefour and the manufacturer. They report “unacceptable price increases” and that Carrefour is “committed to reducing prices.”

Food prices remain higher by more than 7%

Disagreements arose during tariff negotiations. The distributor thinks Pepsico is charging too much of a premium. This comes as inflation was +3.7% year on year in December, slightly higher than in November (+3.5%). Food prices rose more than 7% for the year after peaking at nearly 16% in the spring of 2023.

According to RTL, the manufacturer has requested an increase in its production of approximately 7%. If this corresponds to the current level of food inflation, the distributor seeks to negotiate lower prices, with the price trend becoming another step upward.
