Back-to-School Allowance: New Income Cap Set for School Year 2024

We already know the resource limits set for 2024 for the Back to School Allowance. Thus, on December 28, a decree was published in the Official Journal establishing resource conditions for several family benefits, which, as every year, are revised.

Thus, the Return to School Allowance (ARS) is paid automatically every year to families whose resources are below the ceiling set by the authorities. For the 2024 school year, this amount is set at 20,878 euros per family, to which must be added 6,263 euros per child. For a family with an only child, the ceiling is €27,141. Then it is 33,404 euros for a family with two children, 39,667 euros for a family with three children and so on.

These limits are increased by just over 5% compared to the start of the 2023 school year, as the previous decree set a ceiling of €19,827 per family and an additional €5,948 per child, or €25,775 for a family with only one child.

From 398 to 434 euros paid in 2023

However, the amount to be paid will not be announced by the authorities until later this year and will be indexed to consumer prices. In the 2023 school year, the benefit amounted to 398.09 euros for children from 6 to 10 years old, 420.05 euros for children from 11 to 14 years old and 434.61 euros for adolescents from 15 to 18 years old. The goal of the project is to partially finance expenses associated with the start of the school year, such as supplies, equipment and even clothing.

As every year, other resource limits for various social benefits have also been revised upward. In particular, part of this is the basic allowance for the care of a small child (Paje), paid in the event of his birth or adoption.
