“Antidote to environmental anxiety”: installation of the largest wind turbines in France has started in Andilly-le-Marais

“Everyone involved is enthusiastic and excited! It’s a great adventure,” says Bertrand Cardinal, volunteer president of Coopec, a civil energy production cooperative in Onis-Atlantique. Installation of the largest wind turbines in France has just begun in Andilly-le-Marais, near La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime). Three wind turbines with a total capacity of 16.8 megawatts will be installed here in the coming weeks, forming the first civil wind farm in New Aquitaine.

300 participants

More than 300 people ranging in age from a few months to 92 years have joined Coopec to finance the installation of these wind turbines and contribute to the energy transition. “At the local level, we achieve what many citizens aspire to,” adds Bertrand Cardinal. It’s a good antidote to eco-anxiety. » Ultimately, these machines, 200 meters tall at the tip of the blade, will supply electricity to 10,600 nearby homes.

“Six sections of the first mast are currently being assembled in front of the nacelle and rotor. The three blades will then be installed this Friday, January 19th, if all goes well. The only limitation is the wind. It shouldn’t be too strong,” sums up the president of Coopec. Assembly of the other two wind turbines will begin immediately.

“Whatever happens, everything must be completed before March 1 to respect the nesting and breeding season of wild animals,” reminds Bertrand Cardinal. This will be followed by connection to the power grid and a set of tests, the volunteer said. Three wind turbines will operate at full capacity this summer. This civil project was completed in less than six years and did not result in any lawsuits.
