For more than a year now, parking meters have become a nightmare for motorists in Amiens (Somme). And for good reason, according to the latest census, about a hundred out of about 500 are breaking down or experiencing recurring problems, such as being unable to pay with a bank card.
Users regularly share their misadventures on social networks, especially since they continue to issue fines: “This is really shameful! They know very well that parking meters don’t work, but they do nothing and continue to issue fines! “says an angry witness on the website Wake up Amiens.
The new ones will be installed “as soon as possible in the coming weeks”
Others point out that they tried to install up to four parking meters without success and ended up having to pay a €17 parking fee. “However, we have instructed not to impose fines in areas where they face the most problems, such as the city center,” assures François Ball, head of mobility at Amiens Métropole. He announces that new parking meters will be installed “as soon as possible in the coming weeks” to replace faulty ones that have been installed for twenty-five years.
At the same time, he believes motorists can resort to other solutions such as using the PayByPhone app to save time or visiting existing car parks: “They have 4,000 parking spaces and the price is lower than on the surface. – he emphasizes.
