Farmers’ anger: government has its back against the wall before the exhibition

Occupy the land, clear the mines if possible, and the 2024 Agricultural Show promises to be the busiest of Macron’s five-year term. At the top of the state, everyone is working in their own way to defuse the anger of the farmers. Emmanuel Macron, who will go this Saturday, February 24, to the Gates of Versailles (Paris XV) for the traditional inauguration, receiving the agricultural trade unions at the Elysee Palace; four ministers (Bruno Le Maire, Marc Fenot, Olivia Grégoire, Agnès Pannier-Runacher) sent a committee to oversee the obtuse commercial negotiations between farmers, industrialists and large retailers; Gabriel Attal launched a media offensive. We all have in mind what political issues (multifaceted, collective, individual) lie at the heart of this crisis.

Let’s start with the prime minister – “this is his first crisis, he’s the one who dealt with it, he’s the one who is expected,” says Walker. So the chief executive will hold a press conference on Wednesday morning to demonstrate “a clear milestone” that his promises made on February 1 are moving forward and represent the “main directions” of the farm bill. “At some point it is important to talk about the results we have obtained for farmers,” we say in response to Matignon. “He is seeking execution, execution, execution. Well, he’s here to execute,” insists Cash, the majority leader.
