Farmers’ anger: the blockage of the A62 motorway between Agen and Montauban continues this Wednesday

Hours before Prime Minister Gabriel Attal’s speech, farmers continue to apply pressure. The A62 motorway connecting Bordeaux (Gironde) with Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) is blocked between Agen (Lot et Garonne) and Montauban (Tarn et Garonne) in both directions since Tuesday at 18:00, Vinci Autoroutes reports. in a press release issued Tuesday evening. According to real-time traffic monitoring site Vinci Autoroutes, the blockage continues this morning into Wednesday.

Implication for motorists: when driving towards Toulouse, you must leave the A62 motorway at exit no. 7 at Agen and take exit no. 10 at Montauban, heading towards Bordeaux. “It is strongly recommended to familiarize yourself with the traffic situation in this area,” the road manager points out. The blockage extends for approximately 70 km. The action began on Tuesday afternoon and “the situation may continue,” the manager of the axis linking Bordeaux with Toulouse said in a press release.

The road is already blocked

At the end of January, the Coordination of Rural Regions of Lot-et-Garonne had already blocked the A62 motorway near Agen for almost a week before setting up camp to improvise a convoy towards the market of Rungis, south of Paris. According to France Bleu Occitanie, other actions related to several lockdowns are taking place in Gers this Wednesday morning. The N124 highway at several levels and the N21 around Mielan are affected.

The government tried to reassure farmers with a series of announcements at the end of January, but efforts are intensifying on the ground to get the first results before the opening of the Agricultural Exhibition. To keep the pressure on until the end, FNSEA and its trade union ally the Young Farmers (JA) have planned a “procession” of farmers led by several tractors this Friday evening in Paris, ending in front of the exhibition doors. A police source expects “something calm and restrained.”

On Tuesday, a “shock” action was also carried out against “Lactalis” in the Upper Son. Farmers who wanted to redistribute milk blocked a 20,000-litre tanker, complaining that the prices they said were being paid to livestock farmers were too low.

On Tuesday evening in the Le Figaro newspaper, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced the launch of a parliamentary mission to develop the Egalim law so that it better takes into account the “production costs of farmers”, as well as the publication of a decree declaring all in the agricultural sector a “shortage of jobs” , which facilitates the use of foreign labor.
