“This is a really big blow”: unemployed people whose rights are running out are concerned about the abolition of the ACC

There has been great concern among the unemployed whose entitlements are running out since January 30th. That day, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced before the National Assembly the end of the Special Solidarity Benefit (ASS), created in 1984 for unemployed people who have exhausted their rights to the Unédic (unemployment insurance fund) and financed by the state, citing: a trap of inaction. » In addition to the upcoming tightening of compensation for job seekers, this reform promised by the government to “unlock work by encouraging activity” is apparently going poorly. A measure that is also aimed at saving money.

The exact date of removal has not yet been set. But one thing is certain: this could be a major shock to the more than 261,200 beneficiaries (as of 2023) of the SSA. Gabriel Attal clarified that they will switch to South Africa. At first glance, the changes may not seem to have much effect. The benefit will even be slightly higher: a maximum of €607.75 for SA (or €535 for housing assistance) compared to €545.10 per month (fixed amount) for ACC. But in reality, RSA is less beneficial for several reasons.
