2024 Olympic Games in Paris: the government is strengthening measures against civil servants, trade unions are vigilant

Action-reaction. The threat of a strike during the Olympic Games (July 26–August 11) barely provoked a reaction, which was immediate. The Minister of the Civil Service Stanislas Guerini announced this Saturday on the France Info program bonuses of 500, 1000 or 1500 euros “for all mobilized civil service agents”. A response to the CGT’s announcement this Wednesday of the filing of a strike notice covering the Olympic Games period in early April, citing a “lack of dialogue” and the need for “immediate action.”

In fact, the minister did not say anything new; these amounts were already known. A circular from then Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne dated 22 November 2023 provides for an “increase in remuneration” that does not exceed €1,500 gross, as well as the possibility for employers to issue “for example, €500 gross and €1,000 gross depending on the extent and duration of mobilization.”
