Summary. On February 24, as an agricultural exhibition opened in Paris, the agricultural union Confédération Paysanne staged a coup against the French industrial giant Lactalis. In the midst of a crisis in the agricultural world, demonstrators throw manure at the group’s stand located in the aisles of the Porte de Versailles exhibition center. Goal: Condemn the practices of the dairy industry giant and demand higher remuneration for livestock farmers.

This is not the first time Lactalis has stood out. For several years, the multinational has been regularly accused of setting prices too low to the detriment of dairy farmers. She was also tried several times for polluting rivers near her factories, and today she is suspected of tax evasion. As part of this investigation, a search was conducted at the Lactalis headquarters on February 6, 2024.

For Code, Gwenaël Bourdon, economics journalist at Le Parisien, explains how a small dairy farm, created in 1933 in Laval in Mayenne, became number one in the world in dairy production, while attracting much criticism.
