Michelin Guide: discover the first list of Michelin Keys, the new distinction for hotels

After the Michelin stars come the Michelin keys. The famous red guide has just released Michelin keys, based on the Michelin star model for restaurants, to reward the best tourist hotels. One key for a “one-off stay,” two keys for an “exceptional stay,” and three keys for an “unusual stay.”

If more than 5,000 “wonderful” hotels have been pre-selected “completely independently” in 120 countries, the Michelin guide unveiled this Monday the first ranking of hotels in France. A total of 189 establishments received the award. 24 hotels received three keys, 38 received two keys and another 127 received one key.

There were no big surprises among the establishments that received three keys. We find the presence of several Parisian palaces such as the Plaza Athénée, Bristol, Ritz, Cheval Blanc and George VI, as well as two highly regarded palaces on the Côte d’Azur: the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc. d’Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes) and the Grand Hôtel du Cap Ferrat, located in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat (Alpes-Maritimes). Also on this list are Cheval Blanc and K2 Palace, located in the ski resort of Courchevel.

39 Parisian hotels received awards

A true example of French hospitality: several castles have received two stars. This is especially true of Château Lafaurie-Peyragé in Bemme (Gironde) and Château de la Gaude in Aix-en-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône), both chateaus with vineyards. As for Parisian hotels, we find Royal Monceau, Peninsula and Shangri-La.

Among the hotels that received the key are no less than 127 establishments scattered across 13 regions of France. In particular, three establishments are located in Brittany, three in Normandy and six in Corsica. There are 22 of them in Paris alone.
