Paris 2024 Olympics: 10,000 jobs to be filled on Tuesday at Porte de la Chapelle

Between the intoxicating rhythms of the Congolese rumba king Ferré Gola on Sunday and the baskets of Parisian basketball on Thursday, the Arena Porte de la Chapelle (Paris XVIII) will be the arena on Tuesday for the XXL Employment Forum dedicated to the Olympic Games. This is the last time for three months before the Olympic cauldron ignites. Titled “The Games Are Recruiting”, it offers on-site 9.30am to 5pm over 10,000 vacancies (with or without qualifications) to be filled ‘during and after’ the biggest biennial sports festival of the year.

The missions are located in Ile-de-France, mainly at Olympic venues. Sixty partner companies and service providers of the global event (Accor, Keolis, SNCF, Decathlon, Derichebourg, Enedis, RATP, Onet, Sodexo Live!…) and 10 training organizations, divided into five thematic villages, will take part here.

“This could lead to a permanent contract similar to a summer job.”

Profiles that are currently being actively sought include security guards, housekeepers and valets, linen sorters, cashiers, laundry attendants, cleaners, cleanliness team leaders, forklift drivers, bus drivers, cultural event planners, event planners and even lifeguards.

“No age restrictions. This could lead to a permanent contract, such as a summer job,” we explain to the prefecture of the Île-de-France region, which is running a pilot event involving Paris 2024, the city of Paris and France Travail Île-de-France. “Job creation is largely fixed-term, but there are long-term opportunities in sectors that are looking to hire en masse,” we see in Paris in 2024.

Examples include the catering sector, where “more than one in two employers (60%) say they have difficulty recruiting staff, particularly for waiters and cooks,” or the transport sector, where SNCF and RATP are recruiting on a permanent contract from today “to meet the needs of the event while ensuring those hired have sustainable future employment prospects.”

Many Security Jobs

It is not surprising that it is the private security sector, the one whose needs are most urgent and important, that will be best represented at the forum by the 32 “companies” that are still struggling to find strength. There has been a shortage for several years now.

Next comes the sports and events sector, represented by eight companies. Seven cleaning and recycling companies, as well as a similar number of companies specializing in the hospitality, catering and tourism sectors, will also try to find the rare gems. Finally, there will be six ambassadors looking for reinforcements in the logistics, transport and energy sectors.

In the “final phase of recruitment”, the Dutch group Randstad arrives with around 2,000 proposals, mostly temporary missions in the service of Paris 2024 and its partners. Basic goals? Hosts and flight attendants at stadiums are responsible for receiving and escorting spectators.

“We need men and women of all ages who are accessible and have good mobility. The specific skill required is motivation! Fluency in English would be a plus, but not required. Taking part in the Games is a great addition to your CV, a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” praises François Moreau, Secretary General of Randstad France.

The recruiting giant is also looking for cooks, clerks, dishwashers and even food service cooks. “We need professional experience for these positions,” he explains. Finally, on the logistics side, Randstad will try to convince strong handlers to take part in the Olympic adventure of safely transporting “sports equipment” such as poles and bows.
