A new hospital in Reims, delayed by the Olympics, will not open until September.

The new Reims hospital will not accept patients from this summer, as originally announced. You will still need a little patience to discover the new building called Christian Cabrol, corresponding to the first stage of the metamorphosis of the University Hospital of Reims. The set schedule failed to deliver on its promises, again due to companies mobilized elsewhere on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games construction sites.

The new version of the University Hospital of Reims will rise again and will only open to the general public in September. “This postponement is due to the difficulties in obtaining additional mobilization from some companies that are at the same time committed to the Olympic Games, to which they give priority,” management emphasizes.

Fire inspections postponed

As a result, mandatory fire inspections were postponed. In this regard, management clarifies: “We have chosen to postpone the meeting of this fire safety commission so that companies can comply with the requirements.” Despite this discrepancy, the University Hospital has nevertheless continued to receive furniture and biomedical equipment (operating theatres, CT scanners, intensive care units, etc.) since last month.

The site regularly receives supplies to equip operating rooms. It will not be until September that the first patients will be received in this first building of 58,000 m2. Designed for 429 beds, as well as 47 outpatient clinics. The eight-story building will be dedicated to surgical activities.

Then other stages of the hospital reconstruction will take place, the full completion of the project is planned no earlier than 2031. The goal is to rebuild a completely new hospital and gradually dismantle the old wings as the construction site progresses. The total cost of this colossal project is approximately 555 million euros.
