Petroperú announces that it will soon return to oil exploitation

The company Petróleos del Perú (Petroperú) reported that it is preparing its return to oil exploitation activities with the participation of strategic partners in lots 192 and 64.

He added that in the coming weeks the supreme decree authorizing the subscription of the license agreement between Perupetro and Petroperú, for 30 years, for the operation of the Lot 192 (Loreto).

The requirement to proceed with said subscription was to close the prior consultation process for said batch, which concluded at the end of September with the participation of 25 native communities and more than 90 agreements reached.

The income of Petroperú al Lot 192 represents the return of said company to operations in the jungle, to the most representative lot in the country”, He specified.

Contreras also argued that the state company has contributed almost US $ 20,000 million in taxes between 2004 and 2020. “We do not receive funds from the national budget or the public treasury; we are self-sustaining thanks to our investments and projects”, He mentioned.

In addition, he stressed that 30% of the managers of Petroperú They are women and that one of their objectives is to achieve that 50% are female staff. It also proposes the creation of a school of professionals specializing in the ‘upstream’.

Talara Refinery

The executive pointed out that the state company is about to complete the construction of the new Talara Refinery (Piura) to reduce the amount of sulfur in crude oil and comply with the Euro VI standard.

The new refinery has offered an average of 4,000 jobs. The new plant will process heavy crude from the Peruvian jungle”, He declared.

Regarding the North Peruvian Pipeline, Mario Contreras stated that his objective is to maintain “in good condition one of the most important assets in the country”. In addition, he highlighted that Petroperú has its sights set on renewable energy and is currently designing a five-year plan to implement photovoltaic energy, wind energy and solar panels in some of its operations.

Similarly, he commented that Petroperú already provides the natural gas distribution service in the southwest of the country, in line with its strategy of becoming an energy company. To date, it serves approximately 13,000 homes to those who supply natural gas in the cities of Arequipa, Moquegua, Ilo and Tacna.
