30 new ERTE and 90 more affected in Castellón at Christmas time

The latest data from the Ministry of Economy as of December 14 shows an increase in temporary employment regulation in Castellón compared to the end of November

The effect of temporary employment regulation files (ERTE) in the labor market continues to advance despite the start of the campaign for Christmas, a period traditionally characterized by an increase in hiring in key sectors such as commerce or hospitality, among others.

The latest data from the Department of Sustainable Economy as of December 14 show an increase in files and, therefore, of those affected, with respect to the end of November in the province of Castellón. Specific, 28 new ERTE which include 91 workers who have been trapped by the regulation of employment at the doors of the Christmas holidays.

The accumulated data of ERTE from last March 12 to December 14 show a total of 8,262 files that have affected a total of 46,351 workers in the province of Castellón compared to the 8,234 ERTE and 46,260 workers who had at the date of November 30, according to the statistics that the Department of Sustainable Economy offers punctually.

In the whole of the Valencian Community, the total number of ERTE rises to 69,439 and those affected are a total of 470,357.

The data show the economic difficulties derived from the rebound in contagion cases that has been taking place in recent weeks. In fact, hiring forecasts that were launched for the present Christmas campaign already placed a decrease by 20% compared to last year in the province of Castellón.

The uncertainty caused by the second wave of infections and the restrictions on schedules, capacity and perimeter closures will negatively affect the 2020 Christmas campaign. Adecco expects that between the months of November and January (both included) 10,200 contracts signed in the province of Castellón, 20% less than in the Christmas campaign last year.

In fact, the setback registered in Castellón is the highest than expected in the Community Valenciana, since the estimated drop in hiring in Valencia is 18% while in the province of Alicante it is 15%.

Packers, order pickers, warehouse porters, delivery men and carters will be some of the most demanded profiles of this Christmas campaign, according to Adecco’s forecast, which underlines that the difference this year is that  «said personnel will be located in the logistics centers, instead of in the traditional shops».  «As happened on Black Friday, the Sectors linked to mass consumption and e-Commerce are those that will generate the most employment at Christmas: food, distribution, retail, logistics and transport », they add.

The reality is that, despite the contracts that may be generated in the current Christmas and Kings campaign, the upward trend in temporary employment regulation continues to advance in parallel with that of contagions in the province of Castellón.
