The price of the dollar rose in Venezuela over the weekend, when Nicolás Maduro accused the European Union of spying on the electoral process of the oil country.

The exchange rate was trading at 5.18 sovereign bolivars in the informal market in Venezuela, according to data from the DolarToday portal.

According to the EFE agency, President Nicolás Maduro reiterated this Sunday that the members of the European Union Electoral Observation Mission (EU-MOE) did not come to Venezuela as electoral observers but “as spies of the European Union” with the intention of “Stain” the elections held last Sunday.

“A delegation of spies, those were not international observers. They walked through the country freely deployed spying on the social, economic, and political life of the country “, the president insisted during a broadcast on the state channel VTV.

Maduro called the observers of the EU-EOM “enemies” and assured that they delivered a report “full of improvisations” and “badly written”, with which they sought to “stain Venezuela.”

“Those who came as enemies, the delegation of spies from the European Union, did not find a single element to criticize the electoral system. They searched a report full of improvisations and badly written, they searched and tried to stain the impeccable and democratic electoral process of Venezuela and they could not “, he assured.

Regarding the elections, the president assured that they were “transparent, reliable, fair, safe and free” elections in which “Chavismo swept the popular vote”, which in his opinion demonstrates “the power of the Bolivarian revolutionary movement” and of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).
