The dollar traded down in Venezuela due to an appreciation of the local currency according to DolarToday; meanwhile, the ruling party announced that it would launch a new candidate to win the elections in Hugo Chávez’s home state: Barinas.

The price of the dollar reached 4.84 digital bolivars yesterday in the informal market in Venezuela, a lower level of 3.10% compared to the price of the previous day, according to data from the DolarToday portal.

According to the Efe agency, President Nicolás Maduro announced this Thursday that the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) will launch a new candidate in the elections to elect governor that will be repeated in the state of Barinas – the birthplace of Hugo Chávez and where his brother Argenis he lost the regional elections last November – on January 9.

“We have a challenge on January 9 and we are going to launch a new candidate to win the elections in Barinas as well, with a new candidate, supported by the people of Barinas, supported by all”Maduro said during the swearing-in ceremony of the governor of La Guaira, José Alejandro Terán.

This Tuesday, the National Electoral Council (CNE) formally called a repeat of the elections in Barinas for January 9, after the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) issued the order and annulled the votes of November 21. in that region.

The Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court made the decision after receiving a constitutional protection action filed by Adolfo Superlano, considered a dissident of the opposition, alleging a violation of constitutional rights, among other things, because Freddy Superlano (with whom he has no relationship) appeared despite to be disabled.

The announcement of a new candidacy comes after, this Tuesday, the official candidate Argenis Chávez, withdrew his candidacy for reelection for the elections that will be repeated in that entity.
